gone with the blow

never thought of selling insurance, but had to few years back.my first experience to work for multi national company..that was the time when mncs had started operating in india..as it was a new thing,it took me a while to get used to the new corporate culture..everything looked so well planned and organised..plush office..training program..rules to be followed...dress code...and a new term for people who sell insurance_'advisors'...never heard of that term used for them in india..they were and still are called 'agents'...a term which carries no respect in professional terms.people consider insurance 'agents' as losers as in who dont have anything else to do in life resorts to this job.the new trendy term 'advisor' sounded attractive to me and gave me a feeling that it would change peoples thinking towards agents ..oh sorry ..advisors.but i was wrong, things were still the same,i faced my share of humiliation, avoidance by people whom i approached to sell insurance with a new tag 'advisor'.no matter how well groomed, with good communication skills(english),they were (most probably still now)treated like stary dogs most of the time, specially if the advisor is unfortunately a male.it was or is a bit easier for women(fair skinned, attractive) advisors as i have noticed during my time ..they get better treatment, easily get the desired appointments..even close the deal smoothly.since i happen to be a male...i was on the wrong side it seemed..endless sessions of telecalling..repeating the same well designed lines over and over again ... we were trained to be nice to people..just take whatever trash they throw on you..keep smiling.forget who you are, forget your self respect, forget your dignity,be shameless and keep approaching people and achieve your targets forced on you by your efficient managers.well,i tried and started fixing appointments and meeting people.i faced all kinds of humiliating response and somehow managed to sell, but the sales were not satisfactory...since there was no salary for the job i had to depend on my commissions only which were not enough to continue...i kept continuing hoping things will be better with time...managers barking all the time to sell more and more because they also had their targets to maintain, but when i approached them to come with me for a presentation, they did not have time for that...but they had all the time for female advisors,it was peculiar to see female advisor getting better services and response from everyone in general, ofcourse specially from men, they easily sold insurance, achieving targets, kept laughing all the way to their respective banks, going abroad on company sponsored trips..using managers cabin, phone, internet, fax and god knows what ..with a nice cup of coffee.most of the toppers in insurance sector are women as fas as i know and have seen.without generalising,i think, most of them were doing good business because they were selling themselves...i guess its the same in every sector,i dont know,i have seen women compromising with clients and managers, using their sexuality,to get business..among other practices exercised by advisors irrespective of their genders were, offering a portion or even the entire amount of their commissions to the prospective clients, paying the first amount of premium themselves, its being practised so much that clients demand these things themselves when someone approaches them for insurance.i got tired and decided to call it quits because i thought i was not fit for this kind of work,i was caught in a wrong job which did not suit me ... i could not be someone who i was not,i realised i was not the right person for this work.

well..nothing to get disappointed guys...keep selling insurance if you are ..its a great work to do with lots of adventure envolved...i just happen to be gone with the blow.
